Scott Alan Comes to London

Sorry things have been a little quiet on the blog front, I have just started my teacher training and it's pretty non-stop.

So next weekend I am heading to London to see Scott Alan at the Leicester Square Theatre. This is extremely exciting for a number of reasons. Firstly, I absolutely love his music! Really catchy melodies, with fab orchestrations - I don't think you could fail to feel great after listening to one of his albums. I also love that he feels a little like my secret. It was really exciting to "discover" Scott. Ok, so I know he has made a name for himself in NYC and on the West Coast, but he is only really beginning to be heard over here, mainly by the Kerry Ellis diehard fans. I love that feeling when you find someone new and exciting that you can go and tell all of your friends (except the ones who have already died from my overdose of Musical Theatre) about.

Thirdly, he uses THE most amazing artists to record his music. Sutton Foster, Kerry Ellis, Eden Espinosa, Tracie Thoms, Jonathan Groff, Heidi Blickenstaff (my hero!), the list goes on and on. For his London concert, Scott has assembled the most amazing cast of performers. Patina Miller from Sister Act, Oliver Tompsett from Wicked and so many more; STEPHANIE J BLOCK is even flying over from New York with him for the concerts. Just to top it off, we have the pleasure of watching Frances Ruffelle, the original Eponine in London and on Broadway.

There is a distinct possibility that I may not make it out of this concert alive, so if you don't hear anything for a while you'll know I've gone to Broadway heaven. Please do check out this amazing up-and-coming composer, I really think he's one to watch. He has a blog and a YouTube channel, so there's oodles of stuff to read and listen to:

I have adopted one of his particularly uplifting/cheesy tracks (depending how you look at it!) as my soundtrack for the year. "The Distance you Have Come", performed on his Album "Keys" by the fantastic Natalie Weiss (and The Monday Nights, New Voices Choir) is ridiculously optimistic and I love it! You can listen to the track here and of course all of Scott's music is available to buy through his website (see above) and at Dress Circle.

On a side note, I cannot stop listening to the Zanna, Don't! soundtrack. It is so amazing! I have also rekindled my love for RENT (it wasn't a very difficult thing to re-establish!) in that I have new people to share my love with. Watching the SONY recording of its' last performance on Broadway with a friend last night just brought it all flooding back - what a fantastic show?! As has been said by many, with the show being closed on Broadway for a year now, we are one year closer to a revival. That will be an exciting day.

I look forward to telling you all about the Scott Alan concert soon.

Some days you might feel that there is no ending, but if you give up now you'll never know if you could have won.

Flis xx
